Introduction
In summer 2023, our team hosted a first-in-market 2-day leadership training program coupled with Videography and Artificial Intelligence (AI) elements at one of the prominent secondary schools in Hong Kong.
This program, involving over 150 students, was a transformative journey designed to shape the leaders of tomorrow. This course is a brand-new training program tailored for student leaders who possess various leadership positions at schools.
Creativity is at our core in what we do, therefore this training incorporates the knowledge and practical exercises in Videography and Artificial Intelligence (AI) - with the goal to offer opportunities to develop students' content creation skills while leveraging the latest technological tools with Artificial Intelligence (AI) .
Course Features
(1) Fusing Creativity with Leadership
Our program takes the lead to integrate creative elements with core leadership skills catered for students. Students were grouped to produce a 1-minute video associated with school's core values of the 6 Virtues - a task that blended artistic expression with opportunities to work as a team i.e. developing their soft skills such as communication and collaboration. This approach engaged students in a practical learning process, making the development of leadership skills tangible and observable.
(2) Gamified team-building challenges & activities
Through ice-breaking games and activities in various team formations, students were given opportunities to identify problems, brainstorm solutions, execute planned actions and evaluate if planned actions went as planned or not. Each student takes turns to lead tasks and work at different role in a team environment.
(3) Leverage AI Technologies
Our program introduces students with the latest tools in creating content i.e. Generative AI tools to facilitate their problem solving. In this particular theme of videography, we introduced easy-to-use tools in script-planning and video editing for students to get hands-on experience in creating content with technological tools.
A snapshot of a chatbot that we built specifically for script-planning and role assignment in a team - students get a taste of using it to assist them in writing scripts and planning for videographing.
Course Design
Day 1 - Leadership Theories; knowledge sessions in videography i.e. principles & techniques, equipment selection and management, storytelling and target audience management; AI tools for script-planning.
Day 2 - Presentation essentials, communication as a leader and a team member; advanced knowledge sessions in videography i.e. editing essentials, media management; AI tools for video editing and post production; group presentation; feedback & review.
Skills Development
Participating students honed a variety of soft skills, crucial for their future roles:
Creativity: Stimulating innovative thinking in storytelling and video production.
Communication: Enhancing effective idea articulation and message delivery in team environment.
Collaboration: Encouraging teamwork and synergy in role-changing tasks.
Problem-Solving: Developing resilience and strategic thinking in face of challenges i.e. both leadership activities and a series of video-making tasks.
Task Management: Cultivating skills in planning, organising, and executing projects with time constraint.
Conflict Management: Equipping with techniques to resolve disagreements constructively in group discussion.
